»Model Reduction For PDEs – Benefits, Chances, Limitations And Challenges«

Model Reduction in PDEs – Advantages, Opportunities, Limitations, and Challenges

When does a simulation need to be completed in milliseconds? Parametric PDEs – such as those used in optimization, uncertainty quantification, or on embedded systems – require real-time solutions. The Reduced Basis Method (RBM) makes this possible: During an offline phase, a compact reduced system is trained that solves problems extremely quickly online  with a certified error bound.

Prof. Karsten Urban's lecture at the Ulm University provides an introduction to RBM, showcases impressive real-world acceleration results, and explains the theoretical foundations, opportunities, and limitations of the method.
