From June 23 to 27, 2024, 23 female students from MINT-EC schools had the opportunity to participate in the MINT-EC Girls Camp. There, they learned what applied mathematics means and worked on practical projects in workshops. Among other things, they explored the topology of water supply systems and the optimal location planning for rescue stations.

Twenty students from all over Germany visited the Department of Mathematics at the Rhineland-Palatinate Technical University of Kaiserslautern-Landau in Kaiserslautern to learn about industrial mathematics.

The director of the Fraunhofer ITWM, Prof. Dr. Anita Schöbel, and Prof. Dr. Jürgen Franke from the RPTU have jointly published the book “Statistical Machine Learning for Engineering with Applications,” which offers a comprehensible introduction to the concepts of machine learning. In this interview, Prof. Dr. Franke explains the special features of the book.

The book “Forscherinnen im Fokus – Wir schaffen Veränderung” (Focus on Female Researchers – We Create Change) showcases extraordinary female scientists and their personal success stories with a focus on artificial intelligence. “Frau N. Hofer,” as it is abbreviated, inspires women to discover opportunities in STEM research and to become enthusiastic about applied research.
