Application and Selection Process for Scholarships

Support for Mathematics Students in Kaiserslautern

The Application

With our Felix Klein Scholarship, we want to give talented young mathematicians the best possible education.

That's why we look for the following in applications for our scholarships:

  • particularly good school or university grades
  • actively pursued extracurricular interests and/or special commitment

Application Deadlines

The application deadlines are May 31 and November 30 of each year.

Funding begins in the following semester:

  • Applications for the May deadline: Funding begins in October of the same year.
  • Applications for the November deadline: Funding begins in April of the following year.

Application Documents

Applications can be submitted by post or email.

Alternatively, documents can also be uploaded via the RPTU cloud directory. In this case, please contact Dr. habil. Christoph Lossen.

Teachers at upper secondary schools and university lecturers can also nominate pupils or students for a Felix Klein Scholarship. All documents should also be sent by email or post. If the nomination is approved, the candidate will be asked to submit their application documents.

The application documents can be downloaded here[only available in German].

The Selection Process

The application has been sent. What happens next?

We make a preliminary selection based on the application documents and, after reviewing the documents, send out invitations to interviews where appropriate.

The Selection Interview

Through personal conversation, we get to know each other better:

  • Applicants introduce themselves in person and should talk in particular about their mathematical interests. The Felix Klein Board members then ask questions on mathematical and non-mathematical topics.
  • Applicants for the master's scholarship give a ten-minute presentation on their bachelor's thesis or a mathematical topic of their choice.
  • Finally, there will be an in-depth discussion on the topic of the lecture and the planned application orientation in the course of study.

We usually hold meetings twice a year, mostly in June and January.

The Decision

The decision on the awarding of the Felix Klein Scholarship is made jointly by the members of the Felix Klein Board. You will receive a response by email within two weeks.

Please understand that rejections will not be justified. We will destroy the application documents for data protection reasons.

There is no legal entitlement to be accepted for funding. Acceptance is subject to enrollment at RPTU Kaiserslautern.
